Unitarian Universalists across the country are gathering in support of a quest to help our planetary home. The UU General Assembly meetin in June, 2006, included the passage of a Statement of Conscience on the Threat of Global warming. this statement includes suggested ways in which we can mitigate global warming, both as individuals and collectively, as a congregation.
As you are well aware, the perils to the earth systems include more than global warming. Both air pollution and water pollution have increased exponentially throughout the industrial age. Resources needed for human existence, or perceived as needed for economic growth, are being rapidly depleted. Many species other than humans are becoming extinct at an alarming rate due to habitat alterations. Virtually all of these adverse changes are caused by human actions, or inactions.
So, how can you help to achieve the goal of becoming, and sustaining, a Green Sanctuary?
The committee encourages you to voluntarily change lifestyle habits to help save the earth. In a parallel effort we will enhance the grening of our spiritual and social home, WHUUF itself. We've devised the attached self exam and ask you to rate yourself now, and then take a personal pledge to change habits. You can then take this same self exam a year from now so you can track any progress you have made.
